Many of Fitchburg's parks and outdoor spaces turn into winter playgrounds, with trails for snow biking, snowshoeing and ice rinks. Get out there and enjoy the winter weather before it's gone!
Snow Biking
Cyclists flock to Fitchburg to explore the area trails, and winter is no exception! The Seminole Mountain Bike Area is very popular with snow bikers. The area is a new, purpose-built system within the city limits of Fitchburg and Madison and is designed for beginner and intermediate abilities. You can access the trailhead from the Capital City Loop bike trail. View a trail map here.
Snow Shoeing
Snow shoeing enthusiasts can log some miles at the UW Arboretum. This 1200 acre property has an extensive network of trails for winter hiking and snow shoeing. You can rent snow shoe equipment from Rutabaga Paddlesports, if you don't have your own! Rental rates are $15/day for adults, $10/day for youths. For more information, click here. Ice skating at McKee
Bundle up, grab your skates, and head over to McKee Farms Park's outdoor ice rink. The rink is free to use, and there are lights available for the evening hours (they will automatically turn off at 10pm). Skater can activate the lights with a switch and they will stay on for one hour at a time. Disc Golf At Nine Springs
Nine Springs Golf & Disc Course is a hidden treasure located in the heart of Fitchburg, and while the course is closed for traditional golf, the disc golf course is open all year! Payers comfortable in the cold and snow can continue to play the Nine Springs disc golf course, minding that they stay off the greens. The cost is $5 to play, players will find an honor box outside the main door for payment.
