Late summer and early fall is the perfect time of year to get outdoors and enjoy Fitchburg’s beautiful green spaces. Pack a picnic, get in a game of pickleball, explore the area's bike trails or hit the links!

Pickle Ball
This rapidly growing sport of Pickleball is capturing the hearts of the Fitchburg community, offering a unique blend of strategy, agility, and fun. Players of all levels are coming together at McGaw Park for Pickles & Beer on Friday evenings from 4:30pm-8:00pm. This event draws 40-100 local pickleball players to the McGaw Park Courts and is a great opportunity to meet and mix with other players socially and play some pickleball! Players bring beverages and snacks to share while waiting for a court. All 8 courts are used for Pickles and Beer, keeping players moving on and off courts fairly quickly. This prevents anyone from getting too bored sitting out. But, while you are sitting out, you can eat, drink, and mingle with new friends!
An Epic Fall Bike Ride
Participate in the yearly Pick Me Up At The Border bike ride—an excellent chance to clock in some miles before the chilly weather sets in and explore the scenic Badger State Trail. Cyclists of all skill levels are invited to be part of this ride and can opt for a route that suits their preferred mileage. The longest journey, covering 78.2 miles to the Illinois border and back, meanders through picturesque farmlands, woods, and rolling hills, offering stunning views. Mark your calendars for the 2025 ride scheduled on September 19th. For all the details about this event, visit bikefitchburg.org.

Golfing At Nine Springs
Golfers, it’s time to get out there and hit the links! Nine Springs Golf & Disc Course is a beautiful golf course located in the heart of Fitchburg with a nine hole par 30 layout. The course provides playability for the novice, yet still has enough hazards to challenge even the most skilled players. Disc golfers pay a flat rate of $5/weekday or $8/weekend day and play all day!
New to Nine Springs is Fling Golf, an exciting new sport and alternative to golf that can be played on a golf course, with a golf ball, alongside golfers and scored the same way as golf. You only need one FlingStick™ for every type of shot! FlingGolf is becoming a favorite for those who like lacrosse, baseball, or hockey and a more active, athletic style of play. Most people can easily learn the sport in a matter of minutes.
Apple Orchard & Pumpkin Farm
Apple and pumpkin picking at Eplegaarden has become a local fall tradition. Vern and Betty Forst purchased the farm and started planting thousands of apple trees in the 1980s. They added their unique Norwegian flair to the farm and over the decades, Eplegaarden became a must-visit destination.
Apples ripen throughout the season and you can always find a new favorite. You can pick your own apples or purchase pre-picked bags in their farm store. Be sure to pick up some fresh apple cider, apple cider donuts and honey while you’re there.
