The Alliance to Hold Forum on Treating Obesity

The Alliance has received a matching grant of $5,000 from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions to hold a forum on treating obesity. The grant will help fund a half-day forum that will engage multi-stakeholders – employers, doctors, pharmacists, patients and associations – to create pathways forward in addressing the barriers to preventing and treating obesity.

The Alliance is hosting the event titled Obesity in the Workplace: A Critical Conversation with Varying Viewpoints on Feb. 13, 2018 in Fitchburg, Wis. from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The event will bring together the facts, health benefit plan design ideas, wellness program approaches and employer examples that show ways to reduce obesity rates in the workplace.

Attendees will learn from:

· A patient who underwent surgery to help her achieve a healthy weight and improve her overall health.

· A pharmacist who can offer information on the latest drugs in the market for weight management.

· A physical activity coordinator from the Wisconsin Department of Health who will offer resources and examples to implement at employer worksites.

· A restaurant owner and foodie who will show examples of healthy, low carb food items to promote.

· A representative from the American Medical Association (AMA) will present the national diabetes prevention program.

· A bariatric surgeon who can talk about the pros and cons of weight loss surgery.

The event is free and open to the public. To learn more and register, visit
