2018 Fitchburg Optimist Club Scholarship

The Fitchburg Optimist Club will be awarding a $1000 scholarship to a student who is a Fitchburg resident pursuing higher education and who is involved working and/or volunteering with youth in the community. Candidates who are committed to community service and helping “bring out the best” in area youth should apply!

Eligibility: Open to residents of the City of Fitchburg age 21 or under who will be continuing their education in 2018. The winner is awarded $1000 toward their education/training and there is a potential for an additional secondary award. Applications are now being accepted and are due at the end of March. Winner will be announced and contacted in Late April or early May.

FAQs

1) When is the deadline for the scholarship application? The deadline for the application is 5 PM on Friday, March 30th. Applications must be RECEIVED by this time either online or by mail. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

2) Who is eligible to Apply for the 2018 Fitchburg Optimist Club Scholarship for Community Service? All high school seniors, students with GED diplomas, undergraduate (2yr or 4yr) college students, and students at vocational or trade schools who meet the requirements below are eligible. Requirements: US Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Fitchburg, WI, 21 years old or younger as of 3/30/2018, and accepted into an accredited academic/training program to start in the summer or fall of 2018.

3) Do I have to be enrolled in High School currently to apply? No, as long as you hold a H.S. Diploma or equivalent and are accepted into an accredited academic or training program for the fall of 2018.

4) How can I maximize my chances of receiving this scholarship?
a) Start your application early and complete it on time. The earlier you start the application, the better chance you have to submit the application before the deadline. You also have more time to ask us questions in case any part of    the process needs clarification.
b) Tell us about yourself and use specific details when sharing your extracurricular activities. We do not know anything about you until you share it with us. Specific details can help us understand your greatness and involvement. The same can be said about your short essays. We don’t expect the essays to run too long but make sure your essay helps us learn more about you and your perspectives.
c) Review your application for accuracy, grammar, and spelling errors.

5) I don’t have a very high GPA. Do I have any chance of receiving this scholarship? Yes, we take many factors into consideration when determining your candidacy for the scholarship. Community service experience, your reference(s), the level of involvement with youth, and other strengths are all taken into account in the decision making process.
